Quilters

Collin County Community College, Plano, TX, 1990

The design team decided to set the production in the dustbowl-depression era westward push, rather than the 19th century. This supported the timeless "everywoman" nature of the story for our Texas audience, many of whom had vivid memories of the dustbowl era. Doris Ulmann and Dorthea Lange's photographs of rural women served as visual inspiration for both the actresses and myself.

The various characters the actresses played were differentiated by pulling on overalls, hats, aprons, shaws, etc.
